All levels include knowledge of all preceding levels of rank. The student is responsible for any basics, techniques, terminology (in Japanese), nage waza, ne waza, shime waza, or rondori for those ranks. The ability to demonstrate this knowledge and any rank requirements for the rank being tested for is expected (listed below). An appropriate level of proficiency for all of the above is expected and will be, minimally, equal to the level of the rank the student is testing for.
Rokkyu:
- Basic ukemi (falls)
- Basic locks (wrist manipulation)
- Kote gaeshi
- Kote mawashi
- Kakae
- Kote hineri
- Katate osae
- First two techniques of the first waza: kote hineri nage, uchi tenkai nage
Gokyu:
- Rokkyu requirements and
- Goshin Jutsu(Ho)
- Katate dori 1 (single hand release)
- Katate dori 2
- Katate ryote dori (single hand grab with two hands)
- Kote hineri – omote/ura
- Uchi tenkai nage (south directional throw)
- Soto tenkai nage (north directional throw)
- Kihon rondori kamaemigi/hidari demonstrated with uke
Yonkyu:
- Rokkyu and Gokyu requirements, and
- The first 6 techniques of the first kata
- Kote hineri nage
- Uchi tenkai nage
- Kote gaeshi nage
- Ude kujiki osae
- Soto tenkai nage
- Ude kakae nage
- Goshin Jutsu(Ho)
- Ryote dori (double wrist grab)
- Ushiro katate dori (rear wrist grab)

- Ude garame (standing)

- Kihon rondori: two attackers (slow speed), standing

Sankyu:

Nikkyu:

- Kote hineri tenkan take down (omote) with kata osae from hiji gatame
- Uchi tenkai nage, west and east, finishing with nage
- Rondori

- Ritsu, medium speed, two attackers (two minutes)
- Nage waza: three from the list below not demonstrated during any previous test
Ikkyu:
- Nage waza: six throws from the list below not demonstrated previously
- Ne waza
- Ude garame, down and up, done from floor
- Counter for juji gatame, ude garame, kesa gatame – escape only
- Rondori-(student kneeling, attacker standing) two minutes
- Rondori-freestyle, two minutes, one submission is possible
- First eight Goshin Jutsu(Ho) without hesitation (four different attackers)
- First eight techniques without hesitation with multiple attackers
Shodan:
- Knowledge of all atemi used in training – names and demonstration.
- Compare and contrast – Jujutsu, Judo, and Aikido and their philosophies during their evolution.
- All basic Japanese (nihongo) terminology used during class.
- 12 Nage waza demonstrated formally in kata form.
- Waza
a. All techniques from first group of eight with at least six variations done with Dan level proficiency.
b. All goshin jutsu at Dan level with different attackers
- Ne waza: demonstration of six with transitional movement allowed but not mandatory.
- Jujutsu Rondori: the ability to defend against six different attackers (two at once), demonstrating fluidity and blending. (four minutes)
- Freestyle: full speed, three different uke, one at a time (uke allowed to use strikes)--four minutes.
- Demonstration of teaching two basics to lower belts in attendance.
